A Travellerspoint blog

Hello hello! So here we are, our first morning in Penang, after an amazing sleep, those 7am starts are going to be REALLY hard back in England...! Our hotel (Chulia Heritage Hotel) is a bit bizarre, everything is white, no exaggeration, everything! It's nice though, and our shared bathrooms all have rain showers in them, perfect!

The getting to Penang was by coach, thank goodness they're nothing like national express, because it was 8 hours! Our time in Melaka was only short whicvh was a shame because we really enjoyed it. turns out our guest room, not only did it have glow in the dark stars in our room, in the corridor it had glow in the dark stars and multicoloured disco lights, so random! We ate in lovely restaurants that were ridiculously cheap, including the Geographer's Cafe, which we felt required a trip, the music was good, the food was amazing, and we think we're pretty cool with our Geographers Cafe cup we bought...!

We went up their equivalent of the Radio City Tower (for non Liverpudlians, it's a tower, and erm, the local radio station is based there...) except this one moves up and down and rotates (the doughnut part, not the whole tower). The views were great, and we didn't even realise we were so close to the sea! We even took this great video of it which I then, very stupidly, deleted by mistake...idiot!

Our coach ride took us past the Cameron Highlands, which were amazing. The original plan was to go and visit them too, but we wouldn't have had enough time there to have done it properly. We do however, think they look so good that we'd come back just to go and see them!

Today we're going to go and explore Penang, buy our ferry ticket to Langkawi, and go and taste some of Penangs raved about street food :)
